Chance of rain continues tonight, but tradewinds return Thursday

The muggy weather and chance of heavy rain continues tonight, but National Weather Service forecasters say relief is in sight as cooling tradewinds return by Thursday.
A flood advisory for Hawaii island expired at 6:30 after thunderstorms over leeward slopes eased.
Forecasters also lifted a flash flood watch for the entire state this afternoon.
However, they caution that there is still a possibility for heavy showers tonight because of the lingering tropical moisture and the forecast calls for scattered showers through the evening.
Satellite photos show the area of heavy rain that passed over Oahu overnight and this morning has moved north of the state.
Tradewinds should begin to return to the Big Island tonight and reach Maui County and Oahu Thursday morning, forecasters said. Kauai should get the trades again by Thursday afternoon.
With the return of the tradewinds, expect the usual windward and mauka showers Thursday.
The rains Tuesday nearly doubled the old rain record for the date at the Hilo Airport Tuesday. Rain gauges showed 7.15 inches fell at the airport, beating the old record of 3.7 inches set in 1982.
On Oahu, in the 24 hours ending at 11 a.m., 4.6 inches fell on Kahuku, Kahana saw nearly 4 inches of rain and 3.7 inches was recorded at Poamoho.

Had an epic thunder and lightening show last night near Wahiawa. Rainfall wasn’t too shabby either.

Lightening hit my house in Volcano Hawaii. Put a hole in the siding of the house right thru the bedroom drywall, glad it didn’t burn down the house. Blew up my water catchment PVC pipes and a 2 foot piece of concrete from the catchment foundation. Scary!
