Mika’ele Kane performs a concert of compositions and arrangements for ‘ukulele in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Bachelor of Music.
This is first ever solo classical ‘ukulele recital at Orvis Auditorium. Mika‘ele Kane, a student of Dr. Byron Yasui, will be playing many of Dr. Yasui’s ‘ukulele arrangements (many of which will receive their public premiere at this recital). The arrangements include four different ethnic pieces (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Okinawan), two Broadway musicals from 1945 and 1949, and a jazz arrangement of an old hapa-haole classic. Also included are two Bach transcriptions for ‘ukulele by John King and a Beatles tune arranged by jazz ‘ukulele master Benny Chong.
