Hurricane Miriam is expected to rapidly weaken this weekend and become a post-tropical remnant low on Sunday.
At 5 p.m. today, Miriam was moving northward near 8 mph, last located about 915 miles east-southeast of Hilo and 1,115 miles east-southeast of Honolulu.
The Central Pacific Hurricane Center said as Miriam weakens, it is expected to turn toward the northwest.
Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph with higher gusts. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles.

Hurricane Miriam strengthened slightly this morning as it continued to turn northward in the Central Pacific.
Located about 930 miles east-southeast of Hilo, Miriam clocked in with maximum sustained winds of 85 mph as it headed north-northwest at 11 a.m., according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.
A turn toward the north is expected later today, with Miriam continuing on that track into Saturday. A gradual turn back toward the northwest is expected later Saturday and Sunday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 85 mph with higher gusts. Little change in strength is expected through Friday, followed by fairly rapid weakening thereafter.
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles from Miriam’s center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles.

Miriam maintained its strength and new direction overnight and threatens to grow stronger today.
Located about 940 miles east-southeast of Hilo, Miriam was still a Category 1 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph heading northwest at 8 mph at 5 a.m., according to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center.
A turn toward the north is expected later today, with this motion continuing through Friday night. A turn toward the northwest is expected on Saturday.
Some additional intensification is expected today, followed by fairly rapid weakening Friday through Saturday night.
