2018 was one the busiest years in news coverage. Devastating floods pummeled portions of Kauai and Oahu in April, then the Kilauea eruption wiped out Leilani Estates in the summer followed by Hurricanes Lane, Olivia, Norman and Miriam giving the Hawaiian islands a good scare. Noah Friend returned to his home in Leilani Estates to find a 10-foot wide crack running 500 feet long through his backyard and beneath his house.
The 32-year-old Leilani Estates resident inherited the house he built with his father in 1990 when he started a family of his own.
