The answer lies in an expansion of the strategy that held the line against poverty in 2020 and that helped America out of the Great Depression.
Local progressive groups are teaming up in an effort to push Congressman Ed Case, D-Hawaiʻi, to support President Joe Biden’s $3.5 trillion “Build Back Better” plan, which aims to aggressively address issues such as climate change, child care and rebuilding infrastructure.
If Hawaiʻi were affordable, monster houses would not be profitable. It is as simple as that. And that means that the solution to monster houses is not more zoning or regulation. The solution is affordable housing.
“Without a dramatic change in economic policy to create a more equitable system that works for everyone, the working folks who make up the backbone of Hawaiʻi’s economy and who are its social fabric will no longer be able to remain in Hawaiʻi.”

Public banks enable more than just cheaper government project financing. They are a critical partner for local businesses: extending critical credit when times are bad and supporting growth when times are good.
If approved by voters this year, the new panel would advise the mayor and Council on issues critical to younger residents such as climate change.
This is especially necessary for those of us who carry privilege and want to help vulnerable populations.
